China Airlines plans to take on eight aircraft this year and retire its fleet of Boeing 737-800s.
In a report by CNA (Taiwan), China Airlines President Kao Shing-hwang stated the Taipei-based carrier will take delivery of eight aircraft in 2024 - including 5 Airbus A321neos and three Boeing 777F Freighters.
In addition, the airline also announced plans to retire its fleet of 10 Boeing 737-800s.
According to China Airlines' website, the airline currently operates a fleet of 82 aircraft – 62 passenger jets and 20 freighters – as of January 2024. Among the aircraft, the new aircraft deliveries will add to the 10 A321neos and 7 777Fs already part of the fleet.
US Network Expansion
Following the addition of destinations in Europe such as London, Prague, and Rome, Kao stated the airline is seeking to expand its network in the United States.
Kao confirmed that China Airlines will launch flights to Seattle in mid-July, after a hiatus of 16 years.
Previously, China Airlines announced plans to launch flights between Taipei-Taoyuan and Seattle starting July 14. Using Airbus A350-900 aircraft, the airline will operate five weekly flights on the route.
Seattle will be China Airlines' sixth destination in North America, following Los Angeles, Ontario (California), San Francisco, New York, and Vancouver.
Currently, Delta Airlines and EVA Air already operates flights between Taipei and Seattle. Fellow Taipei-based airline Starlux also announced plans to launch its own service on the route.
Kao added that before deciding to increase aircraft on certain routes to meet customer needs – with the example of Frankfurt stated – China Airlines will continue to observe market demand.
